10.04.08 ALBUM UPDATE: OFF TO FINLAND & ESTONIA
After completing all the tracking in Feb, we have been editing and preparing files for the final mix. A small change of plan occurred and it was decided that Mark would head over Helsinki, Finland & ferry his away across to Tallen, Estonia to mix the album with Endel Rivers. Endel recently relocated back to his home land of Estonia & after what we felt was a solid album ’Sleep of Reason’, we thought it would be best for Endel to mix the new album. So after a hectic and confusing few months we are back on the track to completion. Mark will be returning to Australia with a mixed Album May 19th & we look forward to finally moving onto the next stage of the project.
We have decided to do a show in Sydney in May to get our self’s back in the flow before we start any ’Kartika’ related touring. We have also added some new studio photos from the vocal sessions at Palm Studios @ our Myspace.
More as it comes
Cheers

31.01.08 'KARTIKA' NEWS FOR JAN 2008
We have had a busy month and a half since our last update! Terry & Mark spent the end of December and the first weeks of the new year tracking the mammoth amount of guitars that we have written for 'Kartika'. So with a bunch of long days and sleepless nights we managed to get through everything with the ever so hard working engineer Ian Miller. Ian is from Adelaide and came down to Melbourne for a few weeks to help make this all become reality for us. Working with Ian on this album has been like having an extra member on board, he has been working amazing hours on this project and we think it would be hard to of made it to this point without him.
After the completion of electric guitars and on Ian's return to Adelaide, Mark slipped into Palm Studios, Melbourne for 16 days to Track Bass / Acoustic Guitars & Vocals with Endel Rivers who most of you know from our last album 'Sleep Of Reason'. Endel has been working overseas for the last year and we were lucky enough to catch him on a brief return to Australia and even luckier to get some studio time with him! It was worth the efforts in the end and we are very happy with the results. Mark's vocal work is set to outshine his efforts on 'Sleep Of Reason'. Tracking all the main & backing vocals, Mark had his work cut out for him as there are much more backing vocals and harmonies this time around.
So what is next? All files from the Palm Studio sessions have gone to Ian Miller in Adelaide, so he can begin the huge task of editing and mixing 'Kartika'. We also have a few additional guests jumping on board with Duncan Patterson (Ion) adding mandolin to the track 'Kartika' and russian singer Emily A. Saaen (Ion) adding some additional backing vocals.
Within the next few weeks we will begin the mixing process and aim to have it all in the bag by the end of March, we will keep you posted!
Cheers,
The Eternal

30.09.07 ‘KARTIKA’ ALBUM UPDATE
Message from Mark Kelson:
"I'm very happy to announce that after two and a half years of writing & recording demos, we have completed 17 songs for our new album 'Kartika'. We will only be recording 10-12 songs for the final album, but I feel very satisfied that we have an excess of great material to choose from. I really feel fans of our music will not be disappointed with what we are about to unleash! We have really tried to incorporate sounds that we love, and have used a couple of interesting instruments such as the Chinese Pipa and the Hammer Dulcimer. I have had much fun playing around with Melotron’s and Analogue Synthesizer’s as well.
We are focused on making this a very organic album and will be steering away from over triggered drums and too many digital synthesizer’s etc, By no means have we become a 70’s Progressive band, but we are surely trying to aim for that fat organic sound which seems to be lacking in a lot of over produced production line metal albums at the moment.
We are booked at Broadcast Studios in Adelaide, Australia on the 14th of December 2007 to commence drums with engineer Ian Miller. Ian & I will be co-producing the album. We will be recording guitars in Melbourne at the end of December & the start of January. We still aim to have everything ready to master in Feb/March 2008."
The songs completed are:
Self Inflicted / Means for an Ending / Blood / Without Reason / A Pale Reflection / Illuminate / Walk Beside You / Brighter Day / Kartika / Silence / July / Lost Our Way / Inside the Grey / I’ve Seen The Dream Through Someone Else’s Eyes / Sunshine / Frozen Sun / Last Embrace

13.09.06 : JAMES HUNT LEAVES THE ETERNAL
Some words from James on his departure...
It is with a heavy heart that I must announce my retirement from The Eternal. For the last three years I have worked obsessively alongside Mark and Chris to achieve a common goal; to make The Eternal stand internationally as a renowned and respected heavy metal band, and to fulfil our collective dreams of making a living from playing the music that we love.
Together, we have gone a long way to achieving this dream, having in three short years been signed to Firebox records, released what are in my subjective opinion two excellent albums, toured Europe and more recently opened for HIM and Opeth on their Australian tours. It was perhaps this most recent success that triggered my decision to leave The Eternal. Being able to glimpse the inner machinations of big international touring acts made me realise that the world that I thought longed for was actually not at all what I desired. Being something of a polymath, I knew then that I lacked the single minded qualities required to achieve, sustain and enjoy international success for The Eternal. Mark and Chris genuinely live and breathe The Eternal, and relish such a prospect. With their collective talent, commitment and determination, in my estimation it is only a matter of time until they achieve it. I’ll be watching and supporting as the good friend that I hope I shall always be to them.
What will I get up to now that there are no bass lines to learn, tours to book and albums to promote? I completed my Doctorate earlier this year in agro-ecology, so I intend to pursue a straight-laced career as an agricultural scientist working for a not-for-profit farming research group in the Victorian Mallee. Musically, I’ll be pestering Mark and Chris to help me record some material of the old-school doom variety that I’ve been working on over the past few years, and try and get that released (more for the purpose of vanity-publishing than serious musical accomplishment!).
I owe an enormous debt of gratitude to numerous people that I have come into contact from my time co-managing and playing bass for The Eternal. This list is too long to mention in its entirety, and I shall restrict it to all past and present members of The Eternal, Rami and JP at Firebox Records (if a fairer, harder working and more reasonable record label exists in the mean old world of the heavy metal music industry, I am yet to hear of it!), Endel Rivers and Mark McCormack, all venues, promoters and bands that have helped us with our numerous live shows, all press that has published reviews and interviews, all radio stations that played our songs, interviews and announced gigs (especially Melbourne DJs Kene Lightfoot, Simon Lukic, Garry Carson, Justin Donnelly, and Tony Khachadourian– you all believed in us from the start!). Finally to my family, friends and darling girlfriend Ebony who have all been so incredibly supportive of my involvement with The Eternal, I thank you all!
And who is to fill my boots? Well that is a very interesting question. Stay tuned, because I am sure no one will be disappointed with my successor…
ALL OF US IN THE ETERNAL WISH JAMES THE BEST, THIS IS A SAD DAY FOR US ALL. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING JAMES, YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE BAND HAS BEEN AMAZING AND WE HAVE HAD SOME GREAT TIMES, WE WILL MISS YOU VERY MUCH! - MARK
